State and Local Voice Members receive some remuneration for their roles.
This includes:
- an annual base fee (called a stipend) that recognises the work and discussions that occur outside of official meetings
- sitting fees for attending official meetings.
Annual base fees
Voice Members will receive their annual base fee payment in fortnightly instalments.

Sitting fees
Sitting fees are paid to members after attending official Voice meetings.
- State and Local Voice Members receive $206 per meeting.
- Presiding Members receive $258 per meeting.
State and Local Voice Members who are state government employees are not entitled to receive sitting fees for attending meetings held during their normal working hours. However, they can take special leave with pay from their government role to attend Voice meetings (including travel time).
If a meeting does not go ahead (for reasons other than the unavailability of a Member) Voice Members will still receive 50% of the sitting fee. If a meeting is cancelled with 2 business days' notice give to the Voice Members, no payment will be made.
Allowances
State and Local Voice Members receive allowances to cover some costs associated with attending official meetings.
Travel allowances cover accommodation, meals, and transport where necessary.
There is a set amount allocated for each of these allowances – and will only be provided where more than 40 kilometres of travel (direct route) is required to get to an official meeting.
