The State First Nations Voice has selected three areas of focus for 2025.

The focus areas arose through consultation with the members of each Local Voice Region and will inform discussions with community and government over the next 12 months.

Focus Areas

Addressing inequities in healthcare access and outcomes for First Nations people. Community has emphasised need for culturally appropriate services for First Nations peoples in mainstream services and addressing gaps in resources in First Nations services.

Prioritising the need for safe, affordable housing and infrastructure developments that meet the specific needs of First Nations communities.  Secure housing is seen as foundational for accessing services, achieving positive education outcomes, securing employment, and improving mental and physical health. Availability, affordability, and quality of housing, including specialised options like transitional housing, medical housing, and emergency accommodation, are major concerns.

Reforming policing and justice systems to address overrepresentation of First Nations peoples and ensuring their human rights are respected within the legal system. Appropriate support throughout the criminal justice process, including post-release, with more rehabilitation facilities and opportunities for healing on country. Emphasis on the intersections between the justice system, issues of drug and alcohol harm and reducing domestic and family violence.
