On Friday 2 May, Members of the West and West Coast Voice (Region 5) gathered at the Mallee Park Football Club to hear from the local First Nations Community and hold their second meeting of 2025.

Community Members gathered to share their views about issues affecting them, their families, and communities. State Voice Joint Presiding Member, Leeroy Bilney, also spoke about achievements of the Voice so far and answered questions about the Voice.

Group discussions facilitated by Voice Members centred on the three focus areas of the Voice to Parliament: Housing and Infrastructure, Health and Wellbeing, and Justice and Policing (Incarceration Rates). Group feedback led to detailed discussions about the focus areas, child safety, and drug and alcohol issues. Community Members also reflected on the need for education to begin at home, stronger links between education and health services, and for high schools to play a role in truth-telling.

Thank you to Port Lincoln community members for participating in the engagement, sharing your views, and contributing to the work of SA’s Voice to Parliament. Your perspectives, stories, and ideas will inform discussions between the State Voice and South Australian Government this year.

The West and West Coast Local Voice region is planning visits to meet with First Nations Communities in Yalata and Ceduna in June, providing them the opportunity to share their views on Housing and Infrastructure, Health and Wellbeing, and Justice and Policing (incarceration rates), as well as any other issues affecting them.
