The First Nations Youth Advisory Committee will be made up of 12 people, 2 of different gender nominated by each Local Voice.

The State Voice will be calling for nominations from representatives of each Local Voice region soon.

Purpose and functions

The Committee will:

    • Advise the State Voice on matters relating to the wellbeing, rights, needs, and interests of Youth.
    • Provide the State Voice culturally informed insights that enhance policy development and decision-making affecting Youth.
    • Identify emerging matters, challenges, and opportunities impacting the wellbeing of Youth across communities.
    • Promote the voices and perspectives of Youth across all regions represented by the Local First Nations Voices;
    • Strengthen intergenerational knowledge sharing through recommendations and advocacy
    • Support Culturally appropriate engagement and consultation with First Nations Youth
    • Provide advice of such other matters relating to Youth as determined by the State Voice

Membership

The Committee will consist of two (2) First Nations persons of different gender nominated by each Local First Nations Voice and appointed by the State Voice, with a total of 12 members.

All members must:

  • be First Nations persons between the ages of 15 and 25;
  • be connect to their culture, community, and identity;
  • be recognised by their community for their emerging leadership, participation or contribution.
  • reside in South Australia; and
  • not be current members of the State Voice or any Local First Nations Voice.

Term of office

Members will be appointed for a term not exceeding two (2) years and will be eligible for reappointment, unless they have served two (2) consecutive maximum terms (4 years total).

Meetings

The Committee will meet at least two (2) times per year.

Members are expected to attend all meetings and participate in all processes constructively, and in good faith.

Meetings will be held at a time and location (or virtual platform) determined by the Chairs in consultation with the State Voice and other members.
